Amani looked up from her napping place under a low…

Amani froze for a moment, memories of her and Anaasi flooding back to her the moment they touched. She felt Anaasi’s licks against her fur,and she started to squirm. “Anaasi” she croaked, unable to speak clearly, “Y-you can’t”. She was almost trembling now

anaasi held her tighter, trying to prevent her squirms. “shhh, don’t worry about that now. I will decide for myself what i can and can not do. please stop crying. I’m right here. I’ve got you…” she mumbled as she buried her face into the fur at amani’s chest.

Amani gave up and went limp. This was too much for her, all these emotions rushing at her at once. She felt Anaasi’s warm breathe heat the fur on her chest, and blushed. She hesitantly rested her chin on Anaasi’s head, unsure if it was right or not. She felt home for a moment, but the thought of Anaasi and another lion tugged at her restless mind.

she felt as amani stopped struggling and sighed. her mind was clouded with so many emotions that she couldn’t bring a single one into focus. visions of ikenna, her sons, and amani all twisted as one force and make her feel dizzy. however, as amani rested her chin, she sighed with content. “i’ve missed you my queen” she whispered, unable to move. she then felt amani’s form grow restless again and she looked up with confusion. in her periphial vision she saw kayin and kiume fighting with each other, obviously bored with the adults. but she didn’t turn to focus on them. she was instead, focused fully on amani, anxious for what she was thinking. “please talk to me. i want to know everything that is on your mind…”

"I want you so badly back into my life, Anaasi" she said softly, looking away from the lionness in the direction of the cubs. "But you have a mate". Amani sat there a moment, letting her mind clear up so she could think logically. "I love you Anaasi, but you have…a family, I don’t want your cubs to have my childhood" she said with a dejected sigh. "No cub deserves what I went through".

Amani looked up from her napping place under a low lying tree. Her eyes, bleary with sleep, looked around slowly. Finally adjusting to the bright sun, she sat herself up, and let out a large yawn. “Funny” she said as she finished her yawn, ” Where is everyone?”.

Anaasi was…

Amani raised her eyes slowly, hearing the familiar voice. A small shy grin smpread accross her lips, seeing the familiar lionness. “The one and only” she said softly with a light purr. “How are you my friend?” she asked softly, unable to read the lionness’s voice.

Anaasi felt slightly sick to her stomach. A ghost from her past lay casually before her. Beautiful as always. Anaasi thought she would never hear that voice again. Instinctively she bounded up and fiercely nuzzled against her cheek in greeting. But she the quickly stepped back, feeling awkward and unsure. Her boys were oblivious to the tension and after seeing their mother greet this stranger they knew she must be safe and leapt forward to investigate for themselves. “what’s ur name?” Kayin asked curiously as he smiled and sniffed the air aroun this exciting new lioness. Anaasi sat back on her haunches, forgetting to even introduce her cubs due to her state of shock. “wh-where have you been?”

Amani laughed softly, ruffling the fur of the young cub, “I’m Amani, a ollllld friend of your mother’s” she said with a playful growl. Turning to Anassi, she felt a small twinge in her heart, “I had to leave for awhile….” she said as her gaze drifted  towards the horizon. “I needed to sort myself out for awhile, but… I’m back now”. Her heart hurt slightly, seeing the cubs running about, “Such beautiful cubs”

Anaasi shook her head in a jerking fashion forcing herself to refocus. To make sure this wasn’t an illusion before. She blinked and amani still lay there before. This was real. “oh ummm. Forgive me. Th-these are my boys. That one there is Kayin. And over here is Kiume. M-my mate and I also adopted another son. He’s a little older so he is off playing with other cubs and doesn’t have to stay with us all the time.” anaasi paused and realized she was rambling. She refocused again and thought back to Amani’s response to her previous question. “you left me..” she blurted out suddenly

A small grin tugged at the corner of Amani’s mouth. “My dear,” she said as she strated to stand up, “I did not leave you per say” she said gently, looking Anaasi in the eye. “You left me…” she said, her blue eyes started to sting slghtly, “long before I left you”. Amani turned her focus to the young cubs, “Your mate must be proud..”

She tilted her head in confusion. “no.” she said weakly. “no!” she finally added more defiantly. “I waited for you.” she looked back into Amani’s eyes and felt her emotions bubble as her mind recalled those days she spent waiting for Amani’s return. The days she found comfort in ikenna. All the days she felt guilty for being with ikenna while hoping her first love would come bak for her… “I waited for you to come back for weeks.” a tear fell from her eye and she quickly wiped her paw across her face to catch it. “didn’t u love me?” at this last question anaasi looked firmly at Amani. It was the question that had bothered her all this time. She had to know.

Amani now stood just inches from Anaasi, their noses just a inch apart. “I loved you and I still love you” Amani said, a small growl lingering in her voice. Her mind raced, remembering the day Anaasi cheated on her. The moment that crushed her heart. “You broke me Anaasi, and yet I still loved you. Everyday as I wandered, I wondered if you were happy, if you were ok, or even if you missed me.” Amani said with a sigh, squeezing her eyes shut. She knew tears were threatening to break loose as she looked back at Anaasi. “But it’s too late for me…”

Amani’s words confused anaasi’s emotions even more. They stood with mere inches between their snouts. She thought back to the day she had laid with Tojo, and came crawling back to Amani, begging to be forgiven. It had been a mistake. An act of animal instinct. She had been in her first heat and didn’t know what to do with the emotions and hormones. But she had come back and confessed to Amani. Confessed her love and begged to still beloved in return. Amani had obliged, but anaasi didn’t know that she really hadn’t moved on from it. She felt the same guilt she had felt that very day reemerge within her now and she dipped her head low in shame. “I loved you so much. A-and I too have wondered if you were okay. And happy without me. I-I eventually started a new life. Ikenna, my mate and now have a family.” she paused and looks back to her Cubs with an odd mix of pride and sadness. “but I-I never stopped thinking of you Amani” with her last statement she looked back up into amanis eye’s. “I never stopped. You were the first one I have ever loved, and who has loved me in return. I never even got to say goodbye. I’ve moved on, but you have always been in my mind. Every. Single. Day.”

The tears started to spill out then. Amani never cried, she had raised herself to never show weakness. The pain from this, however, was almost to much to bear. A small pitiful whimper escaped her throat, refusing to look back at Anaasi. She was like her father, forever alone, forever exiled, in both the heart and mind. She looked up at Anaasi, unable to speak, afraid of what would come out of her mouth if she dared open it.

Mohatu blinked sleep away as the sun rose slowly. It’s fiery rays greeted him, and he slowly stood up. Once he finally got to his paws, the wind ruffled into his mane, and he took a deep breath of the morning air. He then looked up at Pride Rock, his home, where his children were born, and were…

"Well look who we have here" Amani said playfully, approaching her great grandpa from behind. The lion looked as strong as ever, from what Amani could see so far. It had been awhile since she had seen any of her family, so she was a bit hesitant as she awaited a response.

Ikenna had…

Amani raised her eyes cautiously to the unfamiliar voice, “My name is Amani,” she said slowly, observing the male lion carefully. “I don’t think I have met you before either..” she said with a small quiet grin.

Ikenna tried to keep his composure when she spoke her name. Amani. This was Anaasi’s old mate; the mate that Ikenna took her from. “A-Amani? You’re the queen of the pride, aren’t you? How haven’t I met you yet?” Ikenna wore a fake smile as to not make himself seem off, but he was worried. What would Anaasi do now that she was back?

"Am I still queen?" She said rasinig a eyebrow as she swished her tail, "I thought maybe they’d finally given up on me" she said with a small laugh. She wasn’t expecting that upon her arrival, "Well now you have at least, better now than never". A small smirk on her face hid the observing look in her eyes. Something was off about this lion, and she wasn’t sure as to what it was just yet.
